Kauai County employees to get temporary hazard pay for working during pandemic

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Unionized employees with the County of Kauai will receive temporary hazard pay for working during the pandemic, United Public Workers (UPW) AFSCME, Local 646, AFL-CIO announced Monday.
Union members ratified a temporary hazard pay (THP) settlement agreement with the county after UPW filed a class grievance on behalf of employees required to report for duty during the COVID-19 pandemic between March 4, 2020, and March 5, 2022.
“Throughout the pandemic, our members kept critical services operational, often at great personal risk,” said UPW State Director Kalani Werner. “We are proud to have secured compensation that reflects the magnitude of their sacrifice and dedication.”
